A certain quantity of oil is introduced into the gas spring cylinder, which not only serves to lubricate the seal,
but when spread between piston and guide exerts a slowing-down action in the stem extension stage and ensures a more gentle and joltless movement.
To exploit this characteristic to the full, the gas spring should be fitted with its cylindrical body in a higher position than that of the stem.
This does not apply to horizontal applications and in this case it would be advisable to consult our technical office.
Likewise for a spring which for various reasons (even if not recommended) is applied with the stem higher than the spring body.
To sum up, the best position of the spring in any application is with the body at the top.
